Weekly Bread #179

We got home from our road trip yesterday afternoon. After almost a full month away, it is good to be home. My bags are unpacked and the laundry is done, but it will take me a few days to settle back in. It was a great trip, the first long once since COVID hit. Except for General Assembly (which rocked!) and a couple of serious driving days, we went hiking every single day and covered a lot of miles. We soaked in two different hot springs, hiked part of the PCT in the Columbia Gorge, climbed Sulphur Mountain in Banff, did the Trail of Ten Falls in Oregon and a bunch of other, less famous trails. Although we carried bear spray (per the Canadian ranger’s advice) we saw no bears. We ate well, stayed in a bare bones room at a YWCA in Banff, and got a few free nights and a couple of upgrades and both Hilton and Best Westerns. We were able to charge the car fairly often, so the gas expenses weren’t crazy making.

The trip wasn’t so great for maintaining my weight loss. I gained 5.2 pounds during the trip, despite all the hiking. I expected something like that. Restaurant food, free breakfast at many of the hotels, and cocktails almost every evening can add up over time. We are home now, back to a routine, and I will bring it down again. No guilt, no sweat.
