Daily Bread (Week 20)

Meals are getting a tad more interesting as I vary the veggies and lean meats at dinner.  My breakfast is pretty much now always a non-fat Greek yogurt, some blueberries or raspberries, 4 ounces of cherry tomatoes and 3 dried prunes.  Lunch might be scrambled eggs with spinach and mushrooms, a shrimp and spinach salad, or even a turkey sandwich with mustard on thin sliced whole grain bread. I have been trying to stick to 1300-1350 calories per day as recommended by the program.   Last week I ranged between 1302 and 1335, so good job, me!
Last night in class we talked about mindful eating, which includes really tasting and savoring our food, which is supposed to increase our satisfaction levels and make us feel full with only the amount of calories that will allow us to continue to lose weight.  I still have 100 or so pounds to go, so I need stay all in with the program.  I am not really on board with the mindful eating yet, however.  During the full meal replacement time, I began to see that fake “food” as simple fuel for my body.  The taste of the products was tolerable, but nothing I would really choose to eat. I decided years ago not to eat anything that I did not really enjoy.  Why waste calories, time, and energy, eating stale food, soggy fries, or broccoli?  I did manage with the products though, not particularly enjoying them, but knowing I needed them, and that has worked for weight loss.  Since starting back on food, I have chosen only things that taste OK to me (so still no broccoli), that are reasonably well balanced, healthy, and that help me stay within my calorie budget.  But savoring the tastes?  No, not really, food is still pretty much simply fuel to me.  We will see how long that lasts, but for now, I am not ready to savor every bite.  It seems like a slippery, perhaps dangerous, slope for me right now.
My weight loss has slowed, and I am told that is to be expected.  As long as I am down an average of 1-2 pounds per week, I will be on schedule to reach my goal within another year or so.  A year is a daunting time frame when I lay it out like that, but it IS the rest of my life I am talking about, a life I want to be as long as possible.

(My stats for the last week – down .9 pounds, drank over 7 gallons of water and exercised for 290 minutes.  My total weight loss so far is 48.2 pounds.)
